Typhoon Goni

Typhoon Goni has made landfall in the Kumamoto prefecture on the Japanese Island of Kyushu just before 6 a.m. Tuesday (Japanese time).

Goni has maintained a strong core as it tracks into southern mainland Japan, where strong, damaging winds are likely on Kyushu Island. A wind gust to 102 mph was reported at Makurazaki early Tuesday morning and Mount Unzen in Nagasaki prefecture broke its all-time one-hour rainfall record when 134.0 mm, 5.28 inches, of rain was measured in one hour on Tuesday morning.

According to the U.S. military’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Typhoon Goni was located about 82 miles west-southwest of Iwakuni, Japan, and had maximum estimated sustained winds of 90 mph as of Monday night, U.S. time. That makes it the equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. The weakening trend will continue as it tracks into the Sea of Japan due to land interaction and increasing wind shear.

Powerful typhoon Goni nears S. Korea

Heavy rainstorms are forecast for the southern part of South Korea Monday as Typhoon Goni heads toward the Korean Peninsula, weather officials said.

The typhoon, packing winds of up to 49 meters per second, is expected to reach about 430 kilometers southeast of Seogwipo, Jeju Island, by around 9 p.m. Monday, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).

It will then likely position itself in waters 80 kilometers southeast of Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, and weaken, according to the KMA.

Weather officials expect Goni to bring heavy rains nationwide starting Monday afternoon, first on Jeju Island and then in the southern parts of the nation by late night.

The weather agency issued a watch for heavy rains taking effect as of noon in Jeju, saying that a special typhoon alert is likely to be issued for the rest of North and South Gyeongsang Provinces and some part of Gangwon Province by Tuesday.

“Please pay attention to maintaining facilities in areas in Jeju Island, North and South Gyeongsang Provinces and as well as Gangwon Province where the course of Typhoon Goni is near,” said a KMA official.

Goni has already blown though the northern Philippines, leaving at least 15 people dead and several others missing, and also battered southwestern Japanese islands. (Yonhap)

  1. I have discovered some new items from your web page about pcs. Another thing I’ve always considered is that computers have become an item that each residence must have for many people reasons. They offer convenient ways to organize the home, pay bills, search for information, study, tune in to music and also watch tv series. An innovative way to complete every one of these tasks has been a laptop. These computers are mobile ones, small, potent and easily transportable.
